Metonymy
Drawn-sound compositions for the Mini-Oramics synthesiser
Metonymy Op.1 & Op.2 were premiered at Bricks From The Kiln #4 Event One, London College of Communication, London, 5 June 2019
Metonymy is a series of drawn-sound compositions for the Mini-Oramics machine, an optical synthesiser designed by the British composer Daphne Oram in 1976, and realised by artist Tom Richards in 2018.1
The films included here document the machine scores for the first two pieces in this series, where hand-drawn figures on film correlate to sound synthesised in real-time, controlling pitch, wave-shape and vibrato.
The scores for Metonymy Op.1 & Op.2 are published in Bricks from the Kiln #4.2
